Market opportunity

9.45% of the 51,323 active companies in the health and social care sector are based in the North West, generating over £2 billion in revenues for the regional economy. NHS employs more than 1.7m people. Of those, just under half are clinically qualified, including 120,000 hospital doctors, 40,000 general practitioners (GPs), 400,000 nurses and 25,000 ambulance staff. When the NHS was launched in 1948 it had a budget of £437million (roughly £9billion at today’s value). In 2008/9 it received over 10 times that amount (more than £100 billion).
